Who we are
Home Station is run by Home Station. “We” means Home Station, and “you” means the person with the account. Write to us at [email protected].
What Home Station is
Home Station has two parts:
- The radio: a free Android app, on a phone or tablet, for the person who listens. It needs no account.
- The family web app, where you choose the stations, see that the radio works, get alerts and send voice messages. After a free trial, it needs a paid plan.
Home Station doesn’t own or run any radio station. It helps you pick stations from a public directory, and plays them on the radio.
Your account
- You must be an adult to create an account: 18, or the age of majority where you live.
- Use a real email address: alerts and password resets go there.
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
- The family members you invite can change the radio and send messages, as you can. Invite only people you trust.
Setting up a radio for someone
Set up a radio only for someone who agrees to it, or with the agreement of someone who may decide for them. Tell them what the family can see: whether it’s playing, the volume, the battery. Home Station is there to help them listen, not to watch them without their knowing.
Free trial, plans and payment
- New accounts get 7 days free, without a card.
- After that, each radio needs a paid plan: monthly, yearly, or a single payment for life. Prices are shown on our website and in Billing before you pay, in US dollars, plus any tax.
- Monthly and yearly plans renew by themselves until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in Billing, and your plan then runs until the end of the period you paid for.
- “For life” means for as long as Home Station runs, for one radio at a time, on your account. It can’t move to another account.
- If we change a price, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies to you, at your next renewal.
- If a payment fails, the radio keeps playing as it is. Changes to it wait until the plan is paid.
- Stripe handles payments. We never see your full card number.
Refunds
If you’re not happy, write to us within 14 days of your first payment for a plan, and we will refund it in full. This also covers the right to change your mind that consumers have in some places, such as the European Union and the United Kingdom. Otherwise, payments aren’t refunded, except where the law says so.
Stations
- Stations come from radio-browser.info, a free community directory. Broadcasters own their streams, and are responsible for what they play.
- A station can stop, change, move, or be unavailable where the radio is. We check streams and switch to another stream of the same station when we can, but we can’t promise that any station will always play.
- Home Station is for personal listening at home, not for playing in shops, offices or other public places.
- If a broadcaster asks us to, we may stop its station playing through Home Station.
Voice messages
Your messages stay yours. You allow us to keep them and to play them on the radio you sent them to. Record only your own voice, or voices you have permission to share, and nothing unlawful or hurtful. We may remove a message that breaks these rules.
Not for emergencies
Home Station is a radio. It isn’t a medical device, an alarm or an emergency service. The radio’s status and our alerts depend on the internet, the device and the stations, and can be late, wrong or missing. Never rely on Home Station to know that someone is safe.
What you must not do
- Break the law with Home Station, or help someone else do so.
- Try to reach radios or accounts that aren’t yours, or test our security without our permission.
- Overload, disrupt or copy the service, or resell it.
Our service
We work to keep Home Station running and to fix problems fast, but we can’t promise it will never be interrupted. We may improve or change features, and we will tell you before a change that matters to you. The radio needs a working Android device and the internet. Mobile data costs, if any, are yours: the “Only play on Wi-Fi” setting helps.
Ending
- You can delete your account at any time, on the Account page.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, after a warning when we can.
- If we ever close Home Station, we will tell you at least 60 days before, and refund the unused part of monthly and yearly plans.
Liability
We provide Home Station with care, but as it is. As far as the law allows, we aren’t responsible for indirect losses, or for what stations play or whether they’re available, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law says can’t be limited, including your rights as a consumer, or our responsibility for gross negligence or deliberate wrongdoing.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will email you at least 30 days before. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account before they apply.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the place where Home Station is established. If you’re a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and can go to its courts. If something goes wrong, please write to us first: most problems are solved by email.
